ECSO has launched a new SOC (Security Operations Centre)/CTI (Cyber Threat Intelligence) initiative and has hosted a first kick-off meeting on the 13th of March. The initiative was launched to attend to the growing need for  European cooperation and sharing of CTI. CTI is the foundation of a modern, proactive cybersecurity strategy, and a common high-level cybersecurity within the EU cannot be achieved without it. For this reason, the new ECSO Initiative aims to build a pioneer alliance of European actors to boost the SOCs Network and share Cyber Threat Intelligence at the EU level.

ECSO is leading the effort to organise a pioneer alliance of EU companies as well as end users to share CTI at EU level. ECSO Members, in particular those from both the ECSO Task Force on SOCs/CTI and the ECSO CISO Community, expressed interest in further supporting the development of a European network of SOCs and the creation of an initiative to share CTI at EU level to improve the cyber resilience of the EU society and economy. The meeting served also as an opportunity to start a dialogue with the representatives of the public sector and understand the opportunities for closer cooperation.

On the 13th of March, a first meeting was held to kick-start the new initiative. The European Commission, the ) and the European External Action Service (EEAS), from the public sector, were present to have a dialogue with EU-based ECSO Members from ECSO’s SOC / CTI Task Force and CISO Community representing the private sector (AccentureAtosBfore.AiCentre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH),  CY4GATECyber Services Plc,  Haier EuropeIndraOrangeQuoIntelligenceRHEA GroupGuvernul RomânieiSchneider Electric,  Siemens EnergyThalesWithSecure).

The meeting was divided into two parts where, first, EU Companies presented their views on the cooperation, followed by a second part where participants together with the European Commission,  and the EEAS discussed potential common points of interest and cooperation. The event provided also an opportunity to present to the public sector potential of European entities in the the field of SOC and CTI.

About ECSO’s SOC/CTI Task Force:

ECSO’s SOC/CTI Task Force was initiated to to provide opinion on the Digital Europe Programme call “Capacity Building of Security Operation Centres (SOCs)” and to strengthen cooperation between public and private SOCs. The work of the TF continues with the goal of  creating the European Cybersecurity Threat Intelligence Alliance initiative.

About ECSO’s CISO Community

ECSO’s CISO Community is a place for information security leaders to exchange information, good practices, threat intelligence and to develop common positions of practitioners in cybersecurity. CISOs already cooperate on a national, regional and sectorial level but often struggle to find peers from the other European countries. ECSO’s role is of a neutral intermediary that will help in conveying unified voice of practitioners towards other stakeholders in cybersecurity.

Launched in April 2022, ECSO’s CISO Community currently hosts 265 CISOs (or equivalent) from 27 European countries. Daily discussions are being held on topics that are of general interest to CISOs coming from variety of backgrounds, differing experience levels and different countries.

The new SOC/CTI initiative is a joint effort between ECSO’s SOC/CTI Task Force and CISO Community.
